That was strange and disturbing. It was also riveting and brilliant. I would expect nothing less from Bowie. It’s going to take a couple more viewings to fully digest it. And maybe a lyrics sheet.

I’ve got about half a dozen viewings/listenings back to back. There is a powerful, inexorable beat to the piece. Absolutely stupendous. Truly a magnum opus .

I especially like the zombie band playing in the other room. Bowie taps into popular culture. I can think of very few artistic renderings in any medium that have affected me more profoundly or have spoken to me more clearly.

A track on the album called Girl Loves Me is a song about dementia.

I’ll be in the car with Missus this weekend and we’re going to give the album a listen straight through.

I have a suspicion that, while Bowie crossed many boundaries during his career, this work will be lost to an audience outside of a certain band of age and experience. Part of the power of the video to you and me is that we knew Bowie, so when he’s singing with buttons over his eyes, we see the man we know dying.
